Bauhaus Handle
Product design
Fall 2021
During my undergrad at Northwestern, I was assigned to research Bauhaus design and translate the school's values, styles, and history into two handle designs.
Understand Bauhaus design principles.
Create a handle that is consistent with Bauhaus values.
Role: lead product designer
Research
I put together an image board of designs that I like and think are in line with Bauhaus design values.
Graceful curves, organic
Geometric, repeating patterns
Smooth wood and metal
Sketches
These are my two design sketches based on my Bauhaus inspiration board and research.
This handle references the Bauhaus value of functionality and ensuring that the design itself tells the user exactly what to do. The jagged bottom tells the user not to touch it; the smooth top suggests to the user where to grip.
This handle design references the Bauhaus love of smooth, simple, and sleek shapes. My goal was to create a clean handle that easily fits your hand

Reflection
This was my very first product design project, introducing me to research, sketching, iteration, and 3D modeling. It inspired me to pursue product design further. I used SolidWorks for the final model and plan to improve those skills by remodeling it in the future.
