Subaru Bottle
Product design
Fall 2021
During my undergrad at Northwestern, I was assigned to design a water bottle that is consistent with a car company's brand values and visual languages.
Identify Subaru’s brand and company values.
Understand Subaru Outback visual signatures and silhouettes.
Create a bottle design that is consistent with my research.
Role: lead product designer
Research
I investigated Subaru's company values, history, visual signatures, customer base.
Concept sketches
I drafted four bottle designs based on silhouettes and materials from specific car models and interiors.
Active interior bottle
2. Roof rack bottle
3. Industrial exterior bottle
4. Sports squirt bottle
Final design
Based on class feedback and many iterations, I chose the active interior bottle because it aligned most with Subaru's brand values and visual signatures.
Reflection
This project was one of my first experiences in product design, where I began to understand the design process. I learned how to conduct research and apply visual signatures, brand languages, and values to create a final product.
